Project Overview: Palm Island Resort
Tools: Unreal Engine 5, Autodesk Maya
This project is a comprehensive 3D environment study focused on cinematic night-time lighting and organic world-building. As the sole artist on this project, I was responsible for every stage of the pipeline, including the initial landscape sculpting, asset modeling, texturing, and final lighting composition within Unreal Engine 5.
Key Features
Custom Environment Design: I modeled the island’s topography from the ground up, creating a realistic blend of sandy beaches, rocky outcroppings, and lush tropical vegetation.
Foliage & Asset Integration: Using Maya for modeling and custom texturing, I populated the scene with a variety of palm trees and coastal plants. Each asset was placed to create a sense of natural density and to interact dynamically with the light sources.
Atmospheric Lighting Study: The primary focus of this project was to master the “Night Scene” aesthetic. I utilized a mix of warm, artificial point lights (pier lanterns, string lights, and architectural uplighting) contrasted against the cool, ambient moonlight.
Architectural Accents: The scene features a modern resort structure with intricate wooden textures and “V-shaped” architectural lighting, designed to draw the viewer’s eye toward the center of the island.
Cinematic Presentation: The render includes a curated “fly-through” that showcases the depth of the scene, from the gentle ripples of the water at the pier to the distant silhouette of the lighthouse and the high-end yachts anchored off the coast.

Artistic Goal
My goal was to create a high-fidelity, “mood-driven” environment that feels both luxurious and serene. By balancing the high-contrast lighting of the string lights with the soft glow of the UE5 Lumen system, I aimed to achieve a realistic, immersive atmosphere suitable for high-end game cinematics or architectural visualization.
