A Study in Semiotics This project serves as an exploration of Semiotics—the study of signs and symbols—within a 2D space. Created in TVPaint, I hand-drew specific sequences where the objects and environmental changes act as visual metaphors to convey a deeper narrative. By combining these symbols with the Law of Gravity and hand-drawn fire, I’ve created an “endless cycle” that relies on visual language rather than dialogue to communicate its theme, all set against a rich, fully oil-painted background.
Lighting and Dynamic Rain This project explores the integration of environmental effects within a hand-drawn 2D space. Using TVPaint, I hand-animated the rain sequences to ensure a natural, non-mechanical rhythm. I also focused heavily on the lighting dynamics, hand-painting the highlights and reflections that occur as the rain interacts with the scene. The final composition combines these elements against a fully oil-painted background, creating a moody, immersive “endless cycle” that blends traditional fine art with digital FX.
The Law of Follow Through This animation, created frame-by-frame in TVPaint, serves as a technical study of the Law of Follow Through. I hand-drew the sequences to demonstrate how different parts of an object continue to move even after the main body has stopped. By combining these hand-drawn layers, I achieved a natural “overlapping action” that prevents the animation from looking stiff or abrupt, giving the movement a professional sense of weight and momentum.
Hand-Drawn Fire Study This project focuses on the organic movement and fluid dynamics of fire. I hand-drew every frame of the fire sequence in TVPaint, ensuring that the flickering shapes and rising embers felt natural and unpredictable. By combining these hand-drawn sequences.
Endless Cycle This piece is a multidisciplinary exploration of movement and texture. The animation features a hand-drawn fire sequence created frame-by-frame, governed by the Law of Gravity to ensure realistic motion and weight. To contrast the digital fluidity, I created a fully oil-painted background, giving the entire cycle a rich, tactile aesthetic. The result is a seamless loop that blends classical painting techniques with traditional animation principles.
2D Animation Study: The Law of Gravity This project, created in TVPaint, is a study of how weight and force act upon an object in motion. I hand-drew each sequence to demonstrate the Law of Gravity through the ball’s acceleration as it falls and its loss of momentum on the rebound. By combining these hand-drawn frames into one sequence, I focused on creating a realistic “arc” and timing that reflects true gravitational pull.
2D Animation Study: The Law of Anticipation This project is an exploration of classical animation principles using TVPaint. I hand-drew every frame to create a series of sequences that, when combined, form one cohesive animation. The primary focus of this exercise was the Law of Anticipation; I worked to ensure each major action was preceded by a clear preparatory movement to give the animation a sense of weight, realism, and professional timing.
